Chef Shevek’s Cookbook

For a couple of years, many people asked me to give cooking classes. I finally gave in and taught over a 4+-year time period. As others heard of it, they and my students firmly told me to put it all together into a cookbook.

Unfortunately these days, unless you’re a celebrity chef or work for a famous restaurant, publishers don’t want to touch your cookbook. This is partly because of all the free recipes online. Nevertheless, folks keep on asking for a copy of my book—which has been completed for nearly two years.

I looked into Crowdfunding on places like KickStarter and the like, but it became obvious that cookbooks were the bottom of the totem pole for raising funds. On the other hand, several cookbook authors have been having more success starting their own Crowdfunding sites. So I decided to try that model in conjunction with this new restaurant venture.

You can download the entire cookbook or individual recipes for free. This is allowed. But I’m putting my trust in y’all to donate towards the printing of this book with professional photos—taken by our local photographic hero Jay Hemphill, who will be paid—and an eventual digital version with crucial recipes and steps detailed in an accompanying video. We plan on trying to have it printed in such a way that the pages can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

If you appreciated the food at Shevek & Co. Restaurant we hope you’ll donate what you feel it is worth, even if it’s just a dollar for a single recipe. To reward you for having read this far, in one of the two non-recipe chapters there is an Easter egg that will give you the secret ingredient that is in everything I cook but is left out of most of the recipes—I taught it in all the cooking classes.
